- First. For the last 17 years I´ve been on this path we call yoga. My first 12 years where intense. Courses, travels, teaching, learning, studying, stretching, breathing, asanas, books, mantras, sutras and life in general. I still feed from that firm root of knowledge but I think it wasn´t untill life really happened. When the shit hit the fan, that was when the real practice began. I´ve keept my teachers and stopped searching for new ones.
- Second. This point is the most important. I stopped searching because I haven´t felt the presence of an “imperfect disfunctional” teacher. Whatever dysfunctional people have as a burden that weighs them down and stops them from blossoming. Maybe it´s a mental disorder, diet disorder, self inflicted addictions, depression, racial problems, gender issues, abuse. If that person keeps on fighting, moving on and making the problem a tool. I can relate to that. But I rarely find that people share this. I mean just because you where a party princess, slept around then grew up and made life changes. This isn´t what I`m talking about.
That´s what everyone does more or less. We don´t like discomfort and hurt so we eventually try to find a way out of what hurts us.
Maybe you don´t even need to change your lifestyle. Just control the ups and downs a bit and enjoy life more. Choose a different approach. The media overflows with this pink aura of happiness and I can´t relate to that. I understand that my cup of tea isn´t for everyone but I don´t think I´m alone here. I feel we need to be more open to the concept that somethings can´t be “fixed”. We need to adress and enhance certain issues enough to really begin to understand the “problem”. Just as easy as we now can talk about cancer. I would also love to see a world where the Micheal Stones could be more open and speak about their problems, not feel the need to hide
what´s really their strength. I have this saying that I sometimes use when I teach.
“We all have our demons. They will talk to you, seduce you, control you, you will try to control them, you will fail, you will try to force them away and not listen to what they have to say. But hopefully one day you will understand the strong pull they have is also the key into finding an amazing source of creation. If you just make enough space to be able to sit down with them and have a cup of coffee. They can´t be fixed but they will become the right tools when you heal. They will show who you really are”
